If Singapore is in your list of travel destinations and that too if you are the first time visitor to this wonderland, then I am sure this article will take you on a quick ride through the best of this land of the Merlion. As a first time traveler myself, here I give a firsthand account of what I had experienced in this land of dreams.
To start with, let me give the niceties of the Changi airport, a superb gateway to the word class tourist destination, Singapore. Rated as the best airports in the world and the 15th of the busiest airports, it serves about 51 million passengers a year. What makes the airport stand apart is that it houses a butterfly garden, a cactus and flower garden, 24 hour open cinema halls, a sprawling swimming pool etc. This airport is a destination by itself and is a heaven for transit passengers.
Star Attractions Which Your Itinerary Must Include:
Gardens by the Bay: We discovered this world of wonders that night we landed at Singapore. If you want to have an enriched experience, then please do visit this place in the late evenings. I am sure the key attractions of this place being the flower dome, cloud forest, the Supertree Grove, heritage gardens, world of plants, dragonfly lake etc., will awaken the inquisitiveness and the exploring nature in you. The cloud forest and the flower dome being two giant green houses will leave you spell bound as you can marvel all kinds of tropical plants, 2,000 meters above the sea level in the former and all kinds of impressive 30,000 flowering plants categorized into nine gardens in the latter. Another interesting feature of the cloud forest is that it houses the world’s tallest indoor waterfalls which will indeed dazzle your senses. Please do not miss the light and sound show at 7.45pm and 8.45pm daily when the artificial trees light up and dance to the musical tunes.
If you want to view an overwhelming display of music, lights and water laser show, and I am sure you will, then please do not miss this free, yet fantabulous display at Marina Bay Sands, the timings of the show being 7.30 pm and 9.30pm. With the backdrop of the city’s amazing sky scrapers this show is really a feast for the eyes.
Merlion Park:
Created in 1964, the half fish and half lion statue stands majestically overlooking the glittering marina bay, welcoming the tourists. The structure of the statue has its own reasons being, the head symbolizes Singapore’s original name and the body symbolizes Singapore’s history as a fishing village. This icon of Singapore being 8.6m high and spouting water from its mouth with the backdrop of tall buildings can be a memorable sight for any tourist.
Singapore Flyer:
If you want to soar up into the sky and have the whole of glittering Singapore below you, then one must get aboard this giant observation wheel. I bet the breathtaking, panoramic views from this Singapore flyer will create an everlasting impression on your minds. From having a private capsule to having a sky dining experience, you have the option to choose to make your 45- minute round aboard the Flyer memorable.
River Safari:
The inquisitiveness in anyone can get easily aroused upon embarking this Safari where one can find over 6,000 amazing aquatic animals, belonging to various rivers of the world. Being Asia’s first ever river themed wildlife park, the whole area is split into two zones namely the rivers of the world and wild Amazonia. You can have a quick tour across the amazing aquatic species of various world famous rivers like the Ganges, Mississippi, Yangtze, Amazon etc.
Night Safari:
If you want to have the thrill of seeing amazing animals during the night time then please do not miss the night Safari. Rated as the best tourist attraction in the whole of Asia, with more than 1000 creatures, this night time park will keep you enthralled with various walking trails like the fishing cat trail, leopard trail, Wallaby trail etc. We took the Wallaby trail which took about 20 minutes and could see several adorable wallabies munching away food at really close quarters. It was a real delight to watch. We also boarded the night tram and could easily spot several creatures of the Indian subcontinent roaming about freely in the wilderness. An amazing experience indeed!
Beside the river safari is the Jurong bird park and Singapore Zoo, each unique in its own way. Be sure to get the combo tickets for all the 4 or pick any 2 and save big on dollars.
Sentosa Island:
If you are on a mood to enjoy yourself thoroughly then please do not miss this island. Starting from the Madame Tussauds museum, the S.E.A. Aquarium, Sentosa Merlion to Universal Studios and Adventure Cove Waterpark, to name a few, this island has lots to offer to anyone, regardless of age. The attractions of in this place are huge and one should be there in person to discover the joys offered by this island.
Shopping Belts:
Well, if you are a shopaholic then Singapore will not disappoint you. What with the sophisticated shopping hubs like Orchard road, the Vivo city, the Shoppes at Marina bay sands etc. Well, if you are a little cultural oriented then you can head straight to the shops of Little India and China town and if you want save some dollars while shopping then the Mustafa Shopping centre will be up to your expectations.
Well all said and done, Singapore city’s beauty cannot be imagined but has to be experienced. Our family’s top pick were the Sentosa Island and the Night Safari and of course the rest of the attractions do not lag far behind. Three cheers for the dazzling Singapore!
